You have recently completed your MSc in Information Systems, Marketing, or a related discipline in the domain of Business and Management and are now looking for an opportunity to further develop your profile in relation to topics such as digital responsibility and digital ethics? The University of Bremen, Germany -in cooperation with Maastricht University, the Netherlands- offers ambitious graduates with an interest in further honing their research profile an inspiring environment with the opportunity of pursuing a dissertation. Specifically, we are looking to hire a new colleague in a cooperation project between the two universities. The research project is structured in two two-year parts: The first position as a Research and Teaching Assistant in Bremen is for the first two years and the second two years are planned as a PhD student at Maastricht University, School of Business and Economics (subject to local rules and regulations) at the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management (MSCM). Both two-year parts are an integral part of the project. If your application is successful, you will pursue your dissertation as a joint degree at the University of Bremen and the University of Maastricht. Participation in the graduate programs Diginomics in Bremen and GBSE in Maastricht is expected.

When joining our growing information systems team in Bremen, you will become part of a vibrant scholarly community and collaborate on a range of exciting initiatives. At the heart of our group lies a keen interest in how digitalization shapes the work of tomorrow and our team currently researches topics such as digital innovation and digital transformation, work and workplaces of the future, and digital ethics and responsibility. We are also building strong links to the faculty’s entrepreneurship area through studying digital business models and are expanding our collaboration with the university’s Data Science Center to better understand how data-driven decision-making impacts managerial practices. As one of our current key projects, we leverage these topics to develop a unique profile for our new master study program on Management Information Systems – in cooperation with our Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science – which we also consider to be an exciting opportunity to truly digitalize learning in cooperation with our students. Beyond these, we leverage the faculty’s graduate program to engage in a collegiate discourse that allows us to share our experiences and support each other’s work. We further make use of exciting opportunities such as contributing to the interdisciplinary research network on Minds, Media, Machines.
At Maastricht University, you will continue working in a dynamic and internationally-oriented organization in which you receive advanced education and dedicated support with your research project(s) that you have started at the University of Bremen in the area of digitalization and corporate digital responsibility. At MSCM, we work on distinct research domains, such as consumer behavior, retailing, service design, marketing technologies, supply chain innovation or supply chain resilience. In the last few years, we have pursued research projects on these distinct domains with a thematic focus on digitalization and sustainability.
In particular, we are looking for a researcher with the following profile:
Your tasks and responsibilities:
- You independently plan and execute research projects that allow you to cumulatively develop a dissertation in relation to the topics advertised above
- You support other research projects of the participating working groups
- You develop scholarly publications for key international journals and conferences
- You educate students in English (proficiency in German and/or Dutch a plus)
- At the University of Bremen, you teach 3 SWS
- At Maastricht University, 20% of your time will be allocated to teaching.
- You supervise students’ thesis projects
- You take responsibility for administrative tasks of the participating working groups
Voraussetzungen
Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):
- Excellent university degree (Masters or Diploma) in Information Systems or a related discipline in the domain of Business and Management (demonstrated interest and pertinent experience in relation to ethical topics is a plus)
- Initial experience with the collection and analysis of empirical data (e.g., in the context of your thesis) and a willingness to further develop your expertise in using relevant research methods
- Ability to work in a proactive and independent manner, high personal commitment, and a demonstrated ability to work well in diverse teams
- Excellent proficiency in writing and communicating in English (proficiency in German is a plus)
